George Town Cruisers Regatta 2014

Hi All!

George Town has two regattas.   The first one in February is the Cruisers Regatta.  There are two races in the Cruisers Regatta.  One around the island and the other in the harbor around markers.  They are always fun to participate in.  This year we got Third Place for the “around the harbor race.”  We were with buds Corbett and Robin/COOKIE MONSTER.

The second race is the last weekend in April and it is called the National Family Island Regatta.  It is like the Americas Cup in cruising for the Bahamas..  The islands of the Bahamas have sloop sailboats and they race them for the National Championship.  It is lots of fun to watch them and they have a three day 24/7 party!  We have missed the Family Island Races since we leave the beginning of April to work our way back home  Hopefully next year we will stay to see them. In Staniel Cay on New Year’s Day they have one of the preliminary races for the Bahamian sloops.

Tom was able to crew on Nassau’s A-Class Sloop Courageous a few years ago.  He had a great time and it was certainly fun to watch them!

Had a wonderful Bahamas Season. Starting our trek for home.

Hi All!

We had an incredible season in George Town this year.  Always great to catch up with old friends and fun to meet new ones.  Time does fly by and now we have turned the corner and working our way slowly home.

You can double click the photos for a larger view.

Had a very nice cruise to Williams Cay.  Enjoyed swimming in the crystal clear water, viewing the beautiful sunset and sunrise and a lovely evening with buds Jan, Mark and puppy Sailor on SEAS THE DAY.  It’s still incredible to see the clouds turn turquoise blue!

We are now on our way to Black Point Settlement.  Always enjoy coming back to Black Point for Ida’s hair cuts, laundry and Paymon’s incredible Bahama Coconut Bread!

Photo Update: Around Miami Area

Hi All!

1/29/13 – We are actually in George Town, Exumas, Bahamas on a mooring ball in hurricane hole #2.  I am trying to update some of my photos from earlier.  These are from the Miami area.  Click on them if you want to see a larger version.

12/17/13 – Cruisin’ the Miami area.

We saw the Resorts World Super Fast Ferry that takes you to Bimini for a reasonable fee.  It was much bigger than I thought it would be.  The reviews on it are not so great since they try to get you to Bimini and back quickly.  They only give the passengers 3 hours or less on the island before it’s time to return.  Of course, you could always get a hotel and come back a different day or come see one of your boater friends while they are hanging out there!

The Super Fast Ferry can get you to Bimini in a hurry!

It’s always fun to anchor out in South Beach, Miami.  So many things to do and see!  The main attraction is Lincoln Road with all of it’s shops and beautiful people!  We usually anchor out at Sunset Lake or by the Venetian Causeway.

This is where we do our final provisioning before staging to head over to the Bahamas.  There are no shortages for grocery and gourmet shops…the choices are endless.

We are having a great time with Harry and Fran/SIRIUS.  It makes it fun to have friends to play with!

Hope all is well with you and yours!  Thanks for stopping by!

Photo update of the incredible Fort Lauderdale Christmas Parade

December 14, 2013

Hi All!

Well…what can I say.  I have been remiss on photos due to lack of internet and probably some procrastination on my part. (grin)

When we were in Fort Lauderdale we got to see the Christmas Boat Parade up close and personal.  We took our dinghies out to the ICW and rafted them up together (about 6 of us.)  Since we were the smallest boats there we got a front row seat!  We had Christmas lights on our dinghies and got applause from all the big boats in the parade!  It was a great time!

Wish I could show you all the boats but the internet here is very limited.  The boats had bands, dancers, and all types of entertainment on them.  The music was awesome.  Some were dinner tour boats with everyone eating and dancing on the top sections of the boats.  They say that one of the boats spent almost $50,000 on lights for the parade.

Here are just some of the incredible boats/ships in the parade.  The pictures are small but you can click on them to see them bigger.

All I can say is that it was incredible!  Hope you enjoy the photos!

Warderick Wells, Exuma Land and Sea Park, Bahamas – hiding from the snow!

Hi All!

We are in Warderick Wells.  It is very beautiful and warm.  Sad to see that so many are having a brutal winter!

Internet is very poor here so I will send photos and more details later.  We are planning to head to Staniel Cay on Monday or Thursday…weather depending.

Hope all is well with you and yours!

Exumas Baby!

12/31/13

Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas   78/73 degrees  Wind NE 18 mph.  Light rain possible.

Hi All!

We made it to Bimini and caught up with friends on PRETTY PENNY who were traveling with PIRATE, VIKINGS DREAM, and NO AGENDA.

Also hanging out with buddy boat SIRIUS and new boatie CERULEAN.

Stayed in Bimini for a few days.  Ate out way too much!  The food was great and the breakfasts at Bimini Sands are always good.  The Bahama bread French toast was sooooo yummy!

We left Bimini on Sunday with SIRIUS and CERULEAN and the power boaters headed up by PRETTY PENNY and anchored on the banks. Quite lumpy.  More wind than predicted.

It was great to get into Nassau on Monday.  We usually stay a few days but we are being chased by a front and if we don’t wait to get caught for a week in Nassau we had to leave today.

We got in early afternoon yesterday and stayed at the Nassau Harbor Club.  They have lots of shops right across the street.  We got our Bahamas cell phone, groceries and my final chai tea latte at Starbucks for the season.  We all stayed in and had dinners on our respective boats.  Everyone was tired from the two day trek from Bimini.

Nassau Harbor Club is $1.75 a foot, water $6.00 a day, fixed docks, pool and close to downtown, Paradise Island and important shops…new large grocery, Starbucks, bank, Batelco, FedEx, liquor store, pharmacy and others right across the street.

We are now headed to the Exumas.  Will anchor out at Highbourne Cay tonight.  Yay!  We will finally be at our cruising grounds.  I am sure that Tom will be very happy to have small hops from now on instead of the 10-14 hour ones!

Will send pictures later.  Thanks for stopping by.  Hope all is well with you and yours.
